Defense! Defense! Defense! It’s a chant that is used in so many sports, but something that is so different in the game of baseball. In most sports, there are equal numbers of defensive players and offensive players, EXCEPT in baseball. Nine players start out on the field playing defense, while waiting for one offensive player at a time. There can never be more than four offensive players on the field, while there are always nine defensive players that have control of the game. So, if this is how baseball is played, then why is defensive training just recently coming to the forefront of training regimens?

Baseball has long been measured through offensive measures such as homeruns and RBI’s. However, the defensive side of baseball has gained more attention by coaches and scouts over the past few years. Head Coach of Alabama University, Jim Wells recently told The Birmingham News that they are closer to a SEC Tournament Berth due to focusing more on defense. He has done this through practicing defensive plays at game speed and making his defenders react to and think about the play. Whitey Herzog reinforces the notion of defense being as important as homeruns and RBI’s when he talked about the signing of Ozzie “the Wizard” Smith. Herzog said “[Ozzie Smith] took two hits or a run away from our opponents every game. That’s just as important as a guy who drives in runs.”

Players with lighter bats but solid defensive abilities are being sought after by College and Major League teams with more of an emphasis on the well rounded player being the norm today. And until now, there have not been any products available to effectively train and condition for the unpredictable bounce or “Bad Hop”. ReactionPro® is a simple, yet highly effective training pad which consistently produces unpredictable bounces and lets you complete the entire play and full range of motion using your own glove and a standard ball. ReactionPro is a defensive baseball training system that is used by all positions on the field. By training with ReactionPro, a player becomes a better defensive player thereby increasing their self-esteem and confidence. And with quicker reactions to a hard hit ball, they will also become a safer player, thereby decreasing the chance of an injury.

Former NCAA Head Coach of 19 years and current Professional Coach Chris McKnight says, “Very few products on the market today impress me enough to write a testimonial. The ReactionPro is one of the few exceptions. When my pro season begins this year, the ReactionPro will be there, as an important training tool, developing hand eye coordination, fine focus ability and quickness. If you want to be a better fielder, purchasing the ReactionPro is a no-brainer.”

ReactionPro is the perfect defensive training system to be used at the youth level all the way up to the professional baseball player. There is nothing out on the market today that works as well as the ReactionPro training system at conditioning defensive reactions to the hard hit or poorly thrown ball.
